I have recently landed in Port de Paix without any return flight to the United States pending volunteer work. I am 27 years old and have spent much of my young adult life living abroad (Nairobi, Kenya) and traveling (Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Western Europe). I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Nairobi setting up pre-fab housing units for families effected by the bombing of the U.S Embassy, helped teach english at S.O.S Childrens Village, and volunteered at St. Peter's School (for developmentally disabled abandoned children). I studied French in secondary school and have used it during my travels. Surprisingly, not having spoken much in recent years it is all coming flooding back having arrived in Haiti. Upon returning to the United States following my secondary education I began working as a carpenter's apprentice in New York, NY and then started a small painting company in New Jersey. I am an avid rugby player and student taking at least one semester off from my studies at Palm Beach State College in south Florida U.S.A. I am very eager to begin working, learning, growing and teaching in Haiti, and look forward to leaving my mark in the most positive and productive way that I can.
Bonne chance,
Mike
