The mission of HaitiCorps is to harness the transformational power of national service in order to strengthen the Haitian workforce and facilitate recovery and development for a more vibrant, prosperous Haiti. HaitiCorps fulfills this mission through partnerships and coordination with Haitian government ministries, non-profit organizations, and private industry to 1) offer a pool of qualified Haitian workers to fill positions in organizations committed to fair wages and human rights, 2) provide short-term service opportunities for Haitian Diaspora and other internationals who can bring specific expertise to Haitian-led projects, and 3) provide long-term training and service opportunities for Haitian nationals to serve their country and enhance their competitiveness in the marketplace.
HaitiCorps consists of three programs: Konbit (Working Together), for Haitian nationals with previous training, education, and/or job skills; Ayiti Solidarite (Haiti Solidarity), for Haitian Diaspora and international professionals and skilled laborers; Fòs Dayiti (The Strength of Haiti), for Haitian nationals in need of training, education, and job skills.

About the HaitiCorps Konbit Program
Konbit seeks to match Haitians with previous training, education, and/or job skills in all sectors of the economy with government ministries or organizations in Haiti seeking employees. This branch of HaitiCorps serves the need of employers and job-seekers by providing an organized database of employable adults who have been vetted for their expertise and skill to engage in the work needed by these various entities. It is critical to Haiti’s immediate and long-term recovery that the numerous positions that will come available through relief funds be filled by Haitians. Paying internationals to fill these positions is not only inefficient, and more expensive, it undermines the rights of Haitian people who are looking for work to support themselves and their families. In addition, employing Haitians for these positions injects relief funds into the Haitian economy and fosters an increase in local commerce. Through long-term advocacy for and facilitation of the hiring of qualified Haitian workers, NGOs and businesses will become less dependent upon importing qualified workers.
