Haiti Flight to Crisis III and IV - Volunteer in Haiti (engineers, medical personnel, firemen, teachers, entertainers, writers, media skills)
Greetings-
Last Saturday Flight to Crisis II returned from Haiti. We had mostly engineers and architects as well along with a fireman and a pre-med student/book keeper/photographer and video man in charge. It was a tough but fruitful trip. We achieved quite a bit:
1. The assessment of several dozen buildings in Petite Goaves,
2. drinking water and sewage planning and testing in the tent cities of Port au Prince, the distribution of several hundred pounds of toys and medical and nutritional donations to hospitals, clinics, and an orphanage,
3. Assistance at a mini mobile hospital which sees over 400 hundred patients per day,
4. Development / planning assistance to Port au Prince's Fire Chief,
5. Structural assessment of a large girls orphanage in Port au Prince and donation of tents (75 girls have to sleep outside)
THE NEXT TRIP TO HAITI
The next Flight to Crisis (F2C) deployment will depart for Haiti between Sometime around April 1st. The final departure date will be confirmed based on the overall availability of the those invited Volunteers' schedule.
Here are a few points we wanted to share with you prior to your considering F2C III:
* The first trip cost $2300, the second was $1900, and this one is expected to be even less!
*
Because Haiti has shifted form the crisis/first responder stage to a Post-disaster recovery / long-term planning and development stage, this benefits volunteers for two reasons:
1) The maximum two-week recommended stay has now been lifted. From now on, F2C volunteers can commit to trips of 2 - 4 weeks.
2) This also opens the door to more volunteers from different backgrounds to participate.
We are working on finalizing the budget for the next trip however the trip will include:
*
Roundtrip airfare from Miami to Port au Prince
*
Ground Transportation in Haiti
*
Hotel in Miami to and from Haiti, based on each volunteer's respective arrival and departure times
*
Emergency Medical and Evacuation Insurance
*
Lodging (tent spaces on the grounds of a very nice Bead & breakfast or a room to share at the same B&B)
*
Excess baggage fees
*
ALL meals, snacks and clean water (you will be VERY well fed)
*
Laundry
*
3 "Flight to Crisis" shirts (to be worn every day as all volunteers here do)
*
Registration at U.S. Embassy in Port au Prince on your behalf
*
Some "on location" insidentals and expenses such as Friday night entertainment and Sunday excursions
*
All Tips and gratuities.
