18 year old Volunteer
Location
My name is Don-Marc Arnold and I'm an 18 year old recent high school graduate. I am currently living in my hometown of Kingston, Jamaica and I have decided to take some time off before I begin college in the US. So many times, I have been asked questions about myself that require me to look at who I am from 'the inside out', and too many times, I have seen a person that has fallen into the machine of persevering monotony. I work hard for this, I train hard for that, I achieve it, smile, and move on, setting newer, higher goals for myself. However, I have not been able to find the time during the constant brigade of hard work to look at myself, where I am going, and who I want to become.
In order to see who I really was, I had to look deeper than what the dictionary had to offer. Therefore, before I start my next four years of education beyond high school, I want to take this time to volunteer and give back to those less fortunate.
When the earthquake struck Haiti in January, I was beside myself with sorrow and a feeling of helplessness, even though I live only a few miles away. So now that I have decided to take this leap of faith and volunteer a year my time, and I would like to do this in Haiti.
I have volunteered in local hospitals working with malnourished children
I have worked as a research assistant in a local hospital for 2 months
I speak French
