I recently finished a 3 month volunteer project with Un Techo Para Mi Pais in Bogotá, Colombia and over the past few months I've been researching different volunteering opportunities in Haiti. I've contacted a number of volunteers to hear what it is like on the ground, the challenges they face and to hear first hand what the conditions are like. Through my research I have become very interested in the various construction and rubble removal projects in Haiti and would love to have the opportunity to be a part of these projects. I will be free for the month of March (and I'm very flexible) and believe, if given the opportunity to offer my services and experience, would be able to offer a lot to the Haitian people affected by the Jan 2010 earthquake and on-going crises. A brief bio of myself: Age: 26. Nationality: Australian. Professional Experience: Civil/Structural Engineer - 5 years experience in Australia, Canada and USA. Languages: English, intermediate level Spanish and French (I've lived the past 3 years in Montreal, Canada, which is where I'm currently residing while studying French and volunteering). Primary Volunteering Experience: 3 months with Un Techo Para Mi Pais assisting with construction projects and assessment of families for the eligibility of housing grants. International Experience: I have lived and worked in Australia, and Canada and the USA (3 years). I've also travelled extensively in the Latin America / Caribbean region and I'm aware of the conditions (climatic and social) experienced in the region. I'm willing to go to Haiti and volunteer to do about anything I can. I can and will pay for all my own expenses and be responsible for my own safety and security. I'm available to go in about mid-August 2010 after I have my vaccination regimen..do you have yours? ;) I'd like to stay a minimum of 90 days on the tourist visa and then go over my options.
